How to apply for a job
It can often seem overwhelming to start looking for work or planning your pathway into a career, especially if you aren’t quite sure what you’d like to do.

A CV is a common means of applying for jobs and details your work experience, skills, education, qualifications and interests for a potential employer. You need to convince them that you are the right person for the job, and help you progress to the next stage of the recruitment process.

Winning at interviews
If you’ve been invited to interview, you are identified as having the necessary skills to do the job and wants to meet you and find out if you are right for the organisation or team you’ll be working in.
Interviews are two-way conversations where you are trying to convince the potential employer that you are the right person to help their business, and where you find out if this is the right organisation to give your skills and energy to.

Applying for positions at The Old Vic
At The Old Vic, we offer candidates the opportunity to apply via video, audio or application form as well as through a standard CV and cover letter, to encourage you to show off your best self. We’ve pulled together some tips to ensure that your application showcases the best of you.
Video and audio applications
- Video and audio applications should be no more than 2 minutes long and videos should be shot against a clearly lit backdrop so we can see you clearly. These will need to pre-recorded and uploaded onto the TeamTailor system.
- Make sure you cover off the following in a concise and clear manner:
- Your relevant work experience to the role you’re applying for, tailored to the essential criteria in the job advert
- Why you are applying for the role
- What about working at The Old Vic interests you.
- You only have 2 minutes so make them count – make sure that all of the important information is covered. We want to see your personality, but your work experience is also important.
Application form
The application form covers the following three questions:
- Please tell us about your employment history and any work experience and skills relevant for the role.
- Please tell us about any training/qualifications relevant for the role.
- Why do you want to work at The Old Vic?
- Make sure that your answers are clear and concise, and cover all the relevant information. Aim to write no more than 150 words for each answer.
